Science of Diving course

Master the science behind every dive and elevate your technical understanding to a new level with the Science of Diving course.

During this specialty, you’ll delve into the physical and physiological principles that directly influence your safety underwater.

It’s a 100% theoretical program in eLearning format, designed to reinforce your judgment, improve your decision-making, and consolidate a solid scientific foundation within the SSI or PADI system. Upon completion, you’ll obtain the official Science of Diving certification.

What is the Science of Diving course?

The Science of Diving is an advanced theory specialty for divers (minimum Open Water): the scientific basis of the dive, from physics to marine ecology.

Unlike our other diving courses, focused on practical skills, this training covers exclusively the theory behind recreational and advanced diving. It is conducted in a 100% eLearning format, without water sessions, and is aimed at reinforcing your judgment, your safety, and your analytical skills as a diver.

Upon completion, you will obtain the official Science of Diving certification.

What will you learn in the Science of Diving course?

During the Science of Diving course you will develop a solid scientific foundation that will allow you to understand in depth the physical and physiological principles involved in each dive.

You will understand how pressure, buoyancy, and the laws of gases act in the underwater environment, and how these principles condition the planning and safety of each dive.

You will analyze how the human body responds to pressure and the breathing of compressed gases, understanding from a scientific basis decompression sickness, nitrogen narcosis, and barotrauma.

You will study the fundamentals of decompression models, the functioning of tables, and the absorption and release of gases in tissues.

You will understand how regulators, dive computers, and control systems work, understanding their design and their impact on safety.

You will explore the basic principles of marine ecosystems, tides, currents, and the responsible interaction of the diver with the environment.
